Well there are hell lotsa features which google supports and all of them are listed here

But i am listing here some of them which i generally use and find them handy too.

Google Currency converter :

I would use google currency converter almost everyday as its recession time and it lets me know the fluctuating gold’s value in india. In India, as Dollar depreciates, Gold Appreciates. (just a tip).

So i would do i, put the following line in google’s search bar

1 USD toINR

not only USD but you can convert it to any currency. Say EURO,GBP etc. If you have little programming techniques then you can make your own currency convertor without having to do much. But please see the copyright issues and all. I am sure google might be having some sorta API for this, you can always use this.

Google as a World Clock:

I would ask google like what time is it in USA at the moment, so that i can synch with my US team by having a conference call and stuff like that. Is it good time to call my US client ? And some other stuff. So for that, i can type in

time USA

This gonna list all the times zones available in that country/region.

Google a simple to complex calculator:

What if you want a calculator instantly, yeah i know windows calculator, but dont you think that is crappy little piece of windows ? Well i actually use google calculator cause i can type the an arithmetic equations directly in the google like this one, 8*4+9*5/68

But interestingly google calculator fails on some extent, see this post

Google Unit Conversion:

I was really weak at converting units since grade 5

But now that doesn’t bug me, as i am always connected to internet and google does all my conversions. I don’t have to install any sorta application for conversion etc. Say i want to convert my height 5 feet  8 inches into cms then i simply have to ask google, 5 feet  8 inches in cm , isnt it amazing ?

Google Weather Reporter:

Oh shall i do my laundry today, tommorrow or next week ? Who is gonna tell me ? Shall i wear white, black or some light color depending on how weather is going to be for the rest of the day ? Who is gonna tell me ?

Yet again, google has the answer for this, Yeah google is your weather man too.. if i say

weather delhi

then google gonna tell me the weather for next 3 days, along with various humidity etc figures. Amazing eh ?

Google my dictionary:

Woah, what now ? if i say bum,goon,perplexed then you might understand if english be your native language. But what about the rest of the world, where english still is not the widely adopted means of communication. A country like china. Well for that, you can ask google to help you out in explaining the meaning of simple to complex words. for that just say

define:perplexed

That is all i use for now.. There is a list of others, but these are the ones which you can use in your daily routine.

So sparyk !! you wanna change the default download location of the new light-weight but seems to be powerful browser chrome. well here you go..

1. Open Google Chrome.(that sounded common, eh ?)

2. Click the wrench icon in the upper-right corner of the toolbar and select Options.

3. Go to the Minor Tweaks tab. In the Download location section, click the Browse button and locate the desired download directory. If you want to have more control over where each file is downloaded to, check the Ask where to save each file before downloading checkbox.

That should do the trick .

You gotta give it a try and trust me the speed is optimized, i dont know to what level, but seriously you will notice the difference. Here are the steps you need to follow ::

1) Open firefox and in the address bar type about:config

2) Firefox 3.0.1 may give you a warning that you gotta be careful in whatver changes you make. You hit ok and you will be shown a screen where you can edit certain configuration settings. In the search bar type in or just copy paste from here network.http.pipelining

3) Double click the configuration stated above to change its value from false to true.

4) Now right click and hit new>Integer . Type in nglayout.initialpaint.delay in the prompt box and hit OK. Now in the next box punch in numeric zero i.e. 0 and click ok.

5) Restart your browser and feel the difference.

Some of you might have encountered this issue and ignored it thinking that it might be gmail’s bug or its aspam email. Well google has the capability to turn bugs into features and so is this . Few days back i tried some weird stuff to send email to myself with little change in the email address, in a search to find some more realins across the globe. But to mystify me, the email popped into my inbox only saying that Yes, this is you

So i researched more about this and i came to know that, whatever the username gmail offers you is then all yours along with certain variants. So if your username is johnsmith@gmail.com then you could simply send email like JOHNsmiTh@gmail.com or john.smi.i.t.h@gmail.com

Or in short, any capitalization or any dot (.) is ignored by the gmail server. As soon as you create an ID for your self, all its variants also get reserved for you. So try this tweak right now.

if your id is 23.name@gmail.com try sending the email to 23name@gmail.com

But what if you forget to log off? Someone else who encounters an active session not only can read your personal correspondences, but they also can use that account to grab your passwords from many online services that offer to send reminders via email.

Google Inc’s Gmail service is trying to address that by letting you know if you’re still logged on elsewhere and giving you a chance to disconnect remotely.

At the bottom of a Gmail inbox is a small notice of other active sessions. The new feature, being rolled out to users in waves, also offers some information on the time and location of recent Gmail activities.

The notification is bound to be useful, though it’s by no means foolproof. You have to be log on somewhere to learn of other active sessions, and you have to look carefully for that notice. And if you have chosen to save your password on the other computer, someone else can simply log back on unless you change it.

Other major Web email providers like Yahoo Inc, Microsoft Corp’s Hotmail, allow simultaneous sessions, but they do not provide similar notice or ability to remotely log off. However, AOL does have a setting forcing automatic logoff after as little as 30 minutes of inactivity.

Microsoft said Hotmail will ask for a password if the session remains idle for too long.

Yes this annoying vista’s a general mundane problem “automatic update” is a real pain. Well to stop that filthy prompt you can write the following line in the command prompt(make sure you open it using Administrator, this can be done by right clicking the cmd shortcut and then selecting Run As Administrator).

NET STOP “windows update”

If you face ACCESS IS DENIED, then please right click on the Command Prompt shortcut icon and click on”Run As Administrator” and then there shall be no problem.

More often we use P.S. or PS at the end of our emails. What does it exactly mean ? Some people just do not care and treat it as a note which is mandatory to be read by the reader or the recipient.

But PS actually means Post Scriptum or some people claim it as Post Script. This means the text that is to be added after the message.
